NEW MAP IDEAS:
Counter-Strike hasn't changed much in the past two
years. Some people have ceased to play due to the stagnated development of
new features. SOURCE, is fantastic in itself, but new MAP TYPES may be
part of the answer.
Currently there are:
1. HOSTAGE RESCUE
(4 Hostages, CTs try to Rescue them)
2. BOMBING/DEFUSE
(2 bomb sites, 1 bomb, Terrorist try to plant, CTs try to defuse it)
3. ASSASSINATION
(1 Player VIP, CTs lead him to Rescue safely)
4. ESCAPE
(a Percent of the Terrorists must reach an Escape Zone to win)
The last two are hardly ever seen, they didn't quite catch on
as well as the Bombing when it was introduced.
Though there are those that liked the Assassination Maps (me
for one, OILRIG was great)
PROPOSED NEW TYPE(S):
TYPE 1. KIDNAP / RESCUE
TYPE 2. THEFT / SECUREMENT
TYPE 3. SUICIDE BOMBING
TYPE 1:
There is a VIP (Very Important
Person) that the
Terrorists must KIDNAP. The Counter-Terrorists have discovered this plot,
and must thwart the attempt by stopping the Terrorists, or evacuate the VIP to a
safe place.
The VIP would be placed in a location equal distance between the two teams, each
team would have their own specific Kidnap/Evacuation zones.
Map-Makers could intentionally leave out the CT Evacuation Zone to force them
(on that particular map) to defend the VIP (reverse of the Hostage Rescue
maps). The VIP should be "usable" or "selectable" by
both teams, so that they may take him to their respective zones.
Mapmakers should be able to prevent one team or the other from
"taking/using" him if they so choose for that particular map's
"flavor".
TYPE 2:
Terrorists must try to steal an object (or several) by returning them to their
Evacuation Zone. Counter-Terrorists must stop the Terrorists from stealing
this/these object(s), or taking the object(s) to a safe place. If someone
is carrying one of these objects when they are slain, the object will fall to
the ground just as the bomb does.
TYPE 3:
Much like the current bombing missions, one person is strapped with an explosive
vest/bomb ("the package"), and infiltrate the target zone where he
will explode. Terrorists will assist in delivering the
"package". Obviously, the CTs are suspect that this plot may
occur, and must try to prevent the "package" from reaching it's
target. If the person wearing the "package" is killed, it drops
to the ground where another Terrorist may take over the burden.

To do these, you just need 3 entities (call them what you want, this is for
DEMONSTRATION purposes)
EVAC_ZONE
(Area where Ts or CTs must get EVAC_VIP or EVAC_OBJECT to
win)
EVAC_VIP
(AI controlled actor <like a hostage is now> that T or CT can
"use" to move)
EVAC_OBJECT
(Object that can be picked up by either T/CT to be taken to that team's
EVAC_ZONE)
EVAC_ZONE entity would have 3 properties I can think of: 3 booleans (yes/no)
1-CT_usable_Evac-Zone (yes/no)
2-T_usable_Evac-Zone (yes/no)
3-Object required to be CARRIED by a Player (yes/no)
EVAC_VIP entity would have a few other properties.
1-Hit Points, Server could Enter any number it wanted for the VIP, if ZERO, then
the VIP cannot be hurt, and bullets ,etc pass through him.
2-Usable_by_CT (yes/no) whether or not a CT can lead him around.
3-Usable_by_T (yes/no) whether or not a T can lead him around.
EVAC_OBJECT entity would have the following
properties:
1-CT_USABLE (yes/no)
2-T_USABLE (yes/no)
3-WEIGHT (weight of the object, the lighter it is, the farther and higher it can
be thrown)
4-BOUNCE (a number to tell the physics whether it lands and stops, or bounces
like a ball)
When being carried, the object could be visible strapped to the player's
back, for example, like the bomb.

Here are some sample "PLOTS" to give you an idea of what to expect:
1. Terrorists plan to kidnap a well
known scientist (VIP) for his expertise in chemical warfare. The scientist is
working on his latest project in a small multiplex in the mountains.
Terrorists have a van waiting on the south side, and the CTs have just arrived
via chopper on the north. Pressure is on to rescue the VIP before the
Terrorists get to him. A heavy fire-fight is expected.
(Either team must lead the VIP to their respective EVAC_ZONE to win)
2. Counter-Terrorists have been
alerted to the possible Kidnapping attempt on a local senator's son/father/etc.
(VIP) The VIP is under constant surveillance to prevent this form
happening. Terrorists must infiltrate the residence/estate and take him,
eliminating any resistance along the way.
(CTs do not have an EVAC_ZONE in this scenario)
3. The military is building a
new Stealth Jet Fighter, and the Terrorists want to steal the plans for sale on
the Black Market. They must infiltrate a military base and escape with the
metal briefcase that contains the plans. Counter-Terrorist must prevent
them from getting their hands on this valuable information at all costs.
(CTs do not have an EVAC_ZONE in this scenario)
4. Cases of Plutonium that could be used to make Weapons of
Mass Destruction are being targeted for theft by Terrorist Organizations.
A shipment containing some of these chemicals has arrived in a local Train
Station. Counter-Terrorists have been instructed to retrieve these metal
briefcases before the fall into the wrong hands so that they may be properly
destroyed. Unfortunately, the Terrorists are targeting the same
shipment. It will be a race against time for CT's and T's alike to seize
the cases and get them their respective getaway vehicles.
(BOTH CTs and Ts have an EVAC_ZONE in this scenario, the team to successfully
retrieve the most cases wins)
5. A local Politician is setting up a ransom drop to get
his little girl back, but he is headstrong (or dumb) and planning on getting his
daughter AND his money back. The drop has been made, the Terrorists just
need to get the money, and throw it in a dumpster a few blocks away for
pick-up.
(CTs do not have an EVAC_ZONE in this scenario)
(Terrorist must throw/drop the case/bag with the money into a particular
dumpster (or 1 of 2 locations) to win.)
6. A base with computer system containing vital strategic data
has been compromised. Counter-Terrorists have been sent in to retrieve the
data onto 4 disks and return them to the Capitol. A Terrorist Organization
wants this data as well, and will stop at nothing to retrieve the data from
these computers first. CTs must return the disks to the vicinity of their
APC, Ts must return the disks to their van/vehicle. Inside the base are
five computer towers, when any player "USES" a tower, it will eject a
disc (CD or Floppy) which they will auto-pick-up.
(Both teams have an EVAC_ZONE in this scenario, the team to retrieve the most
Discs wins)
7. The Royal Jewels including the Crown of Ages is on
display at the Museum of Antiquities. The Counter-Terrorists have been
hired by the Royal Family to guard theses treasures while the museum is
closed. Terrorists must infiltrate the museum and steal the Royal
Jewels; taking them to the van parked out back, or the getaway driver in
the parking lot.
OR
8. The Royal Jewels have already been stolen, and traced to a
warehouse downtown. The CT's must infiltrate the warehouse, retrieve the
jewels and escape with them in the APC. The Terrorist were caught
celebrating their score , therefore they must get to the jewels and get to a
getaway vehicle with them before the CTs do.
(Both teams have an EVAC_ZONE in this scenario)
9. During a political unrest in a foreign country, a riot
breaks out. Local Terrorists band together to perform a SUICIDE
BOMBING on an Embassy. The plan is to get to the Computer Server of
the Embassy and do as much damage as possible (or even take out some
"Political Refugees" at the Embassy, just have some Actors
standing/sitting in the target zone.) The Counter-Terrorists must stop the
Terrorist wearing the "package" from reaching the "Computer
Servers" or "Political Refugees". When the Terrorist
wearing (EVAC_OBJECT) gets to his target, well, DUH, he blows up.
Do you want to hear something REALLY corny?
using these entities, someone could create, say, a basketball court, a
Basketball, and two hoops (one Blue, one Red), the Basketball would be the
EVAC_OBJECT; and in each hoop is an EVAC_ZONE (one for each team).
you could call it ..
EXTREME BASKETBALL !
your opponent gets the ball, you shoot him, grab the ball, jump, throw, SCORE!
next round.
You could even do that with Football.. you'd definitely be into EXTREME sports
then.
